Unique, beutiful or ugly?You Decide.

At the moment I was born some could say I was born unique. I was born with deformation in my ear. My ear looked like a monkey’s ear, and it was missing a piece. Everyone criticized my deformity, unable to accept the diversity in our world. It caused me to feel a bit ashamed of my ear even that it did not affect my health. In first grade, I went to surgery to fix this little deformation; then, I did not care much. The most exciting part for me was not getting “fixed”; my enthusiasm relied on going to eat ice cream after my surgery. Then I grew up, and I kind of despite my old ear, and even wanted to change my actual ear.

My inside child does not care about being unique and being herself. I used to love every part of me as a child and did not want anything to change. Then I was molded by society to disliking myself and not being happy about it. The worst part is that I am not the only one.I mean, why aren’t humans ever happy? (Or at least the majority). Everyone wants what they do not have. And this is obvious, right? The unemployed wish to get a job and people who have a job want to quit. The short person wants to be tall, and the tall one wishes to be short.

Until a few months before, I looked at myself in the mirror and could pinpoint everything I did not like about my life. Now, even to take a simple photo I need to move my head to one side because my ears are not symmetrical, and I still love them. After thinking for a bit, I realized why I would want anything to change instead of loving and accepting myself for who I am. I need to love and appreciate the situation I find myself in at a precise moment, making the best out of it. If we are looking for acceptance, to be comfortable, or whatever you do not want, we may find it in ourselves, in what we can control.

My 5 year old self with my funny ear.
